Visiting Scholars Program

The Center's Visiting Scholars program provides residential research fellowships to political and moral philosophers, applied ethicists, political theorists, political scientists, economists, and intellectual, economic, and social historians, so that they may pursue major research projects. Visiting Scholars include both promising junior scholars with academic appointments and established senior scholars. Stipends, offices, and secretarial and research assistance are provided for seven to ten scholars annually. Appointments are typically for one term: either the fall or spring semester of the academic year, or for the summer term. Candidates may also be considered for academic year appointments, especially when they are on sabbatical.

The Center provides an ideal environment for research. It has its own building a short block from the main campus, with each Visiting Scholar assigned to his or her own fully furnished office, including a computer. There is also a highly skilled staff of secretaries and research assistants to aid scholars with their work. Bowling Green State University has a vigorous intellectual community with interdisciplinary interests, and interaction with the campus community is encouraged. The University library also has an excellent collection of books and journals, and the Center has a small library of its own which past Visiting Scholars have found very useful.
